SWOT Analysis & Weekly Reflection: Puffer Fish

I created a puffer fish design one night using Procreate on the IPad and was quite impressed with the overall design I managed to create. I am happy with how my skills seem to be developing in accordance to this particular style. I wanted to recreate this design using my traditional computer set up as well to see just how different the two designs would be in comparison.

The procreate design (purple) has much a much more natural line work appearance, as the line variations are a lot more random whereas the Illustrator version (pink) is a lot cleaner and consistent within its line work. I do feel that both designs have a charm to them but in my opinion I actually prefer the Procreate version for this design. I really like how the line work is unique to each area as I feel it makes the character appear much more natural and a lot cuter. I feel the Illustrator version may be too picture perfect, there is very little uniqueness to its design due to the heavy use of curved symmetrical lines.

Perhaps the reason I prefer the Procreate (purple) version is because my eye is drawn to the sharp contrast in the dark line work. In order to explore this theory I will return to my Illustrator version (pink) and increase the contrast in the same areas to see what effect this has on the final design.

In my opinion I think increasing the contrast has really helped improve this design, as it helps the finer detailing stand out a lot more which in turn makes it more visually appealing. I also added a stroke style to this alteration and feel this works to further enhance the overall aesthetics of my creation as it makes the line work have areas of interest rather than the entire design being made of rounded edges.
