Weekly Reflection: Independent Project - Munchy May, Day 1

May has arrived, and with it the beginning of the Munchy May challenge has well and truly begun! I was unable to complete a drawing for the first day of the challenge, but as specified in the rules, this challenge is all about fun not talent or deadlines so I am glad I made sure not to overwork myself to force a design for the first day.

I took inspiration from my research into cute Instagram artists and decided I wanted to create something which I haven't really seen very much of yet on Munchy May's account which is cute character food!

I wanted to do a really clean approach to this as I felt it would contrast nicely with the current newsfeed on the Munchy May Instagram account.

I struggled originally as I had attempted to create a more painted version but I soon realised I wasn't happy with this style and it did not meet the cute criteria I was hoping to emulate in my work.

Overall I feel my design includes multiple elements which are both cute and whimsical, such as the bouffant of mashed potato hair, the smiley bacon bits and adorable glob of butter all designed to appear as though they are inside the mouth of a yamning potato.

I used Munchy May's food prompt list as inspiration for this meal and I am really happy with the way it turned out, I can't wait to continue my development and exploration into cute illustrations!
