Personal Development: 30 Day Challenge - Day 7

For today’s prompt the concept was based around the theme of a ‘pocket’, I was inspired by the fun t-shirt designs where there are animals hiding within the pockets. I chose to use a theme like this as I felt it would help make a more interesting design as I was struggling to begin with to come up with a concept for this design.

Personally, I really dislike this design and it certainly does no justice to the skill set I have been developing during this challenge. I think the underlying issue may have been the shape of the pocket itself alongside the simple features of the rabbit which look too flat. I really struggled with the completion of this design and was tempted to move on to the next one at multiple stages, but I felt it was important to push through regardless of my disdain for the design so I could identify the areas I felt caused this.

I feel the detailing on the face is far too simplistic for this style considering the level of texture, perhaps if I had created a rabbit with visible fur to create areas of lighting contrast this concept may have worked better.

I would definitely change a lot about this design if I were to re-do it and may attempt to recreate this prompt again should I have time after the completion of this challenge before posting them to my social media, as this illustration really doesn’t portray my success with this style. However, it is still important to document considering it will help me moving forward, especially when it comes to the creation and development of faces using this style.

I think I would also love to alter the background colour I chose, as I felt it would work well with the chosen colour of my pocket, however now I feel it is far too dark and desaturated when compared to the rest of my designs so far which causes it to look as though it isn’t part of the same series of illustrations.
