Personal Development: 30 Day Challenge - Day 10

For the 10th day of the challenge the prompt was ‘dance’ and at first I was unsure of what to create. However I remembered the illustration I made within day 2 and how I used the liquefy effect for the blade and had wanted to explore this technique further.

Due to this I chose to create a ribbon wand which is predominantly used by small children or for rhythmic gymnastics. I chose to create the concept for a younger audience which would enable me to explore a similar rainbow effect as I felt this was a more audience appropriate use of colours.

I found the use of colours and liquefy worked really well for this concept as it gave a more natural fluidity to the ribbon. I also applied a slight motion blur to the ribbon area to enhance this perspective further although I’m unsure whether it works to improve or hinder the creation as it looks a bit too blurred in comparison to the handle now.

I once again overextended the oval, however I fell into the trap of using a light, desaturated colour for the background which makes the design appear slightly lost in my opinion. They work much better on Procreate and appear a lot brighter however they are just not exporting well unfortunately.

I’m not sure how I feel about the overall results of this design, something about it feels unbalanced. Perhaps I should’ve made the ribbon smaller or tried to incorporate elements where the colours would loop round each other to make the positioning more dynamic. Onwards and upwards from here!
