Agency Reviews for Commercial Practice: Lemonade, Handsome Frank and Folio

For this task I was asked to look at 3 agencies within the creative industry which I felt resonated with my chosen future specialisms. Due to this, I decided to explore agencies which were not only based around the representation of those who work within children’s illustration and publishing but advertising as well as these are the two areas I am working towards developing my skills within.

Lemonade – I love how they have an area specifically devoted to children’s illustration, I really liked the artists they currently represent and would be keen to use them as research and inspiration within my upcoming projects next year. I would love to continue developing my skills and understanding surrounding children’s illustration in order to hopefully one day be represented by a company such as Lemonade.

Handsome Frank – They support contemporary artists and practices which would provide me the opportunity to explore the use of more mediums within my work. I really like the diversity of work they offer from their agency as it represents a wide range of artist’s styles and themes which I find appealing in a company considering it shows a more diverse portfolio of work.

Folio – I would love the opportunity to work with them in the future as I feel having my work represented alongside industry known professionals would help boost the appeal of my own work to clients when placed alongside.

A lot of the children’s illustrators I have researched so far appear to be represented by a company called ‘Bright Agency Children’s’. With beginnings as a children’s publishing company now works with sectors such as illustration, greetings and gifts, TV and film and licensing in order to create a much greater commercial potential for their supported artists. I really love the way this company seems to have developed to keep the artists in mind to ensure the process is rewarding for those they represent and it would be ideal to be able to be represented by a company such as ‘Bright Agency Children’s’ in the future to help boost my marketing and freelance opportunities.

However, currently they only work with individuals who have been recognised by international bestseller lists and awards, so it will be a long journey ahead!

These all appear like heavily appropriate agencies given the specialisms I am hoping to enter in the future so I will make sure in level 6 to use research and references from artists represented by these companies in order to help me improve my knowledge and understanding of possible styles and concepts which are current to the trends at the time.
